Theigh
By Editorial Board - Published 2020-08-24

Huntington Post surveillance has picked up a new, unusual threat. Our operatives, who mostly use their resources sneaking into illegal house parties, have uncovered a faction who seems both widespread and commonly known. Theigh, as one fully trusted drunkard had revealed on a napkin, is referenced often in regards to an authority, an enemy, or even potentially a higher power.
The Theigh faction, for lack of a better term, is extremely secret. Investigations have only ever led to vague references to the astonishingly hidden Theigh. Theigh seems to have a hand in everything: from politics to public health orders. Our writers have overheard some people saying “Theigh has said that people are still required to wear masks”. It is unclear why it seems that everyone blindly follows the “Theigh”, for every time our people try to investigate we simply get weird looks, as if we were not following some basic logic. We must assume that this “Theigh” is a threat, one to be taken seriously, and to be assumed to already know about our whereabouts, due to some iffy training of agents on our part. We intend to take this threat to its natural conclusion.
“Units 7, 12, and 43, report for briefing in room 104. Units 11, 42, and 57, report for briefing in room 120. Units 41, 56, and 74, report for briefing on the roof”
The Huntington Post takes these threats very seriously. Nine units, joining forces to form three coalitions. Each coalition is investigating a certain vector for finding Theigh. Coalition Alpha, made up of units 7, 12, and 43, is working towards a technological way of tracking Theigh and communications related to them. Coalition Beta, composed of units 11, 42, and 57, is working social techniques of getting to Theigh. Coalition Gamma, utilizing units 41, 56, and 74, is working the security side, setting up ways to protect Huntington and track potential attacks back to their origin.
“This is Coalition Alpha, reporting in from Denver” the speakers in the control room crackle. “We hear you, Alpha” the Lead Editor shouted back. Our reporter on scene is following Coalition Alpha in their endeavors.
Coalition Alpha Reporter, on record. The Alpha team is setting up information checkpoints at all major demarcation points and internet backbones in the Denver area. All information is intercepted, filtered, sent to Huntington Post, and then continues on its way. Cameras have their feeds rerouted towards HuntPost. We have automated scanners set up that regularly search the entire internet for computers that exhibit signs of being used by this Faction. Our best analysts are looking for ways to fingerprint Theigh Faction devices. Hundreds of drones are searching the city and suburbs. We have people with no moral compasses breaking into computers and looking for information concerning Theigh, and are finding some interesting information. I am confident Coalition Alpha will find a reliable way to find the faction.
“This is Coalition Beta, reporting in from Denver” the speakers buzz once again. “We hear you, Beta” the Lead Editor shouted once again. The reporter accompanying Coalition Beta is on scene.
Coalition Beta Reporter, on record. The Beta Coalition is working on informants, getting people to give information, and detaining people that are suspicious. Informants, while rare, are invaluable. Informants agree to provide information regarding Theigh, and then get paid. Sometimes their information is conflicting, and are very adamant about getting money and are always unsure of the information provided, but this is to be expected from a faction of this magnitude of secrecy. We are also convincing a large number of people to hand over information. We must have interviewed thousands of people, and most of them are cooperative when shown what is to be lost if uncooperative. Detaining people, one of the pastimes of Gerald Fitz (Arizonian Writer), is something that has been happening a lot with specialist Fitz on the ground. Hundreds of people have been detained in our secure facilities offshore for questioning. Beta is pioneering the entire effort of finding Theigh, and will succeed.
“This is Coalition Gamma, reporting in from Huntington” the speakers rattle the room. “Gamma, we hear you” the Lead Editor shouts. One of our reporters is also with Gamma on scene.
Coalition Gamma Reporter, on record. The team here is setting up security nets, physical security, sonar and radar, and regular patrols encircle the premises. All doors have been set up with multiple authentication. In fact, it required a card swipe, a retinal scan, and a password just to go to the bathroom. Every movement is tracked, confirmed, and verified. Pressure activated tiles track people who are not in the system. When anyone leaves the building, we put a tracker on them and mark their destination as a potential faction hideout. We have already tracked four suspects back to their homes, and we are actively planning busts and chartering helicopters. Coalition Gamma is the most advanced coalition of the three, and will find Theigh in a very short time.
So now you know about the Coalitions, I need to ask something of you. The coalitions do not know this yet, but money is running low and we can only fund one of them. On our discord server, vote for the coalition you would like to see funded to completion. Farewell, for now.
